Criminal investigations reported in Dominican Republic and Colombia

In the Dominican Republic, the family of 13-year-old Yosnely Álvarez is calling for maximum legal penalties against Edwin Reynaldo Rodríguez Cruz. Rodríguez Cruz is accused of sexually assaulting and stabbing the teenager before throwing her body into the Yaque del Norte River in Navarrete. A 14-year-old girl was also injured in the attack. A judge in Santiago has ordered 12 months of preventive detention for the 28-year-old suspect.

In Colombia, Nesler Asley Nava Herrera was killed in a shooting in the Circunvalación neighborhood of Cúcuta. The attack, which occurred on the night of October 7, involved multiple gunshots that also wounded another man. Nesler is the son of José Gregorio Nava Gómez, known as ‘Simpson,’ a criminal who was recently apprehended. Authorities are reviewing security footage to identify the perpetrators and determine if the killing is linked to his father’s criminal activities.
