Criminal investigations reported in Peshawar and Balochistan

In Peshawar, a 19-year-old Afghan national identified as Salman has been arrested for allegedly desecrating graves in the Budh Bher Sheikhān area. Local residents and a graveyard caretaker apprehended the suspect during what police describe as his fifth attempt to exhume and sexually abuse the bodies of deceased girls. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect had previously targeted at least four other deceased girls.

In Balochistan, a high-profile case involving a four-year-old girl in Chaman is testing the Balochistan Child Marriages Restraint Act 2025. A 60-year-old man accused of contracting a marriage with the child has fled to Afghanistan, while the girl’s father and the accused man’s brother have been arrested.

The investigation into the child marriage is linked to the death of the girl’s 14-year-old sister, who was found dead in Kuchlak on September 7. Her husband, the son of the 60-year-old accused, has been arrested on murder charges. The girl’s father claims the family was coerced into the arrangement and that the 14-year-old was beaten to death after the family refused to hand over an eight-year-old daughter.
