Criminal sentencing and arrests reported in Chile and Mexico

In Chile, Javier Ramírez Núñez has been sentenced in Cañete for financing the Resistencia Mapuche Lafkenche (RML) group. The funding supported a violent 2022 attack on the Grollmus mill, an incident described by President Gabriel Boric as a terrorist attack. Prosecutors characterized the assault as a hate crime targeting the Grollmus family due to their German ancestry, with the goal of forcing them from the region.

In Mexico, authorities in Oaxaca have arrested Y. R. L. M., known as ‘Platanito,’ for aggravated extortion and violent robbery. Following the arrest of previous leaders of the ASAEO group, the suspect allegedly took control of a new criminal structure operating under the name FESO (Federación Estatal de Sindicatos de Oaxaca). The group reportedly extorted taxi drivers in Mitla through violent demands for union sticker fees and monthly protection payments.
