Criminal sentencing in Cameroon and Gabon involves death penalty and armed robbery convictions

In Cameroon, Batek Yebel Landry, a graduate of the National School of Administration and Magistracy (ENAM), has been sentenced to death in Yaoundé for the murder of his mother, journalist Ngo Yebel Louisette. The crime, which occurred in April 2024, involved the dismemberment of the victim. While the death penalty remains in Cameroonian law, it is rarely applied in practice.

In Gabon, the Port-Gentil Court issued two separate sentences for armed robberies. A young man, M. S. M., was sentenced to two years in prison for the armed robbery of a 17-year-old student's iPhone 12 Pro Max, during which the victim sustained knife wounds. Additionally, N. M. B. received a four-year prison sentence for an armed robbery involving two mobile phones committed in June 2024 alongside an accomplice.
