Criminal sentencing in Paraguay and gang arrests in Spain

In Paraguay, a court in Coronel Oviedo has sentenced a young man to eight years in prison for the death of 17-year-old María Fernanda Benítez, known as Mafe. The defendant was 17 at the time of the incident in May 2025. The eight-year sentence represents the maximum penalty allowed under the juvenile justice regime in effect at the time of the crime. Although laws were later amended to increase the maximum sentence for adolescents to ten years, the principle of non-retroactivity prevents the new law from being applied to this case.

In Spain, authorities in Madrid have arrested six men linked to the Latina branch of the Dominican Don't Play (DDP) gang following the stabbing of Fernando S. B., alias Nene. The victim, a 34-year-old former gang leader, was attacked from behind with a large knife in the Latina district on February 20. The investigation suggests the attack was motivated by internal gang conflicts. The victim survived the assault after spending several weeks in intensive care.
