Criminal sentencing issued for violent assaults and manslaughter in UK and Australia

In separate criminal proceedings, courts in the United Kingdom and Australia have handed down significant sentences for violent offenses.

At Exeter Crown Court, Tobias King was sentenced to more than seven years in prison following a series of violent assaults at a hotel in Honiton. King pleaded guilty to charges including strangulation, false imprisonment, threats to kill, actual bodily harm, and theft. The court heard that King repeatedly strangled a woman, leaving her unconscious, and stole her belongings before fleeing. He had been the subject of a two-week manhunt before being apprehended.

In Australia, Timothy Loosemore was sentenced to 17 years in prison for the manslaughter of Maree Vermont. The Victorian Supreme Court found that Loosemore fatally assaulted Vermont after she ended their brief relationship and subsequently set fire to her home near Goldie to cover up the crime. Justice Andrew Tinney noted that Loosemore showed no remorse and acted out of resentment after being rejected by the victim.
