Crimson Desert modders develop cooperative multiplayer mode

Modders are developing a cooperative multiplayer mod for the action-adventure game Crimson Desert. While the game was originally intended to be an MMORPG, developer Pearl Abyss pivoted to a single-player experience during development.

A video shared on Reddit by user No-Context2224 demonstrates early testing of the mod, showing two players exploring the open world simultaneously. Current successful features include synchronized movement—such as running, jumping, and climbing—as well as synchronized combat animations and real-time equipment changes.

Technical challenges remain, as the mod is still in an experimental stage. Currently, players maintain individual inventories, loot, and quest progress. Synchronization issues persist regarding enemy positioning and world interactions; for instance, players do not yet see each other interacting with animals or environmental objects. Additionally, shared riding is not yet functional. While the mod is still in development, Pearl Abyss has previously indicated they are investigating the possibility of integrating a multiplayer mode officially.
