Belém prepares for Círio de Nazaré religious festivities
Belém, Pará, is preparing for the 2026 Círio de Nazaré, one of the world's largest religious manifestations. The festivities, dedicated to Our Lady of Nazareth, are expected to gather approximately 2.5 million people.
The schedule includes various traditional processions, such as the Traslado to Ananindeua and Marituba, which covers over 50 kilometers and is expected to draw 1.5 million participants. Other key events include the Fluvial procession in Icoaraci, the Moto Romaria, and the main Sunday procession. Cultural elements like the Auto do Círio, featuring 500 artists, will also take place in the historic center to celebrate regional identity and heritage.
To manage the massive crowds, a comprehensive security and logistics plan has been established. This involves multiple agencies, including the Federal Highway Police, Military Police, Fire Department, and municipal guards from Belém, Ananindeua, and Marituba. The plan includes defensive policing, traffic management, and cleaning operations to ensure the safety of the millions of pilgrims and visitors.
