Círio de Nazaré festival schedule announced for 2026 in Belém, Brazil
The 234th edition of the Círio de Nazaré, the largest Catholic pilgrimage in the Amazon, is being prepared for 2026 in Belém, Pará. The official program, released in August, outlines a series of religious, cultural and evangelization events that will run from August through December, including traditional activities such as the Feijoada do Papai, the “mil Ave‑Marias,” formation meetings for pilgrimage leaders, and the official presentation of the operational itinerary to security authorities. The main procession, which draws around 2.6 million faithful, will take place on the second Sunday of October, followed by post‑procession events like the Círio Musical, Cicloromaria, youth and children pilgrimages, and the appointment of the 2027 directing board.
In the Marajó region, a man was arrested in flagrante delicto after threatening and attempting to assault his partner amid the heightened activity surrounding the festival preparations. The incident was reported by local media as the community intensifies its devotional activities leading up to the Círio.
