Crisis charity relaunches fashion upcycling initiative
The UK homelessness charity Crisis has relaunched its fashion upcycling initiative, ‘Create for Crisis’, featuring a new retail identity developed by design studio Dalziel & Pow. As part of the ‘Secondhand September’ campaign, the charity has introduced ‘UNSOLD. RETOLD.’, a collaboration with 12 independent makers and designers.
Participants were given access to the charity’s Canning Town warehouse to select unsold donated garments that would typically be sent for textile recycling. The designers transformed these items into unique, limited-edition pieces through techniques such as cutting, weaving, embellishing, and painting.
The resulting collections are available for purchase online and in 16 Crisis stores across London. Revenue from sales is split equally, with 50% supporting Crisis’ efforts to end homelessness and 50% going to the individual makers.
