Cristela Georgescu calls for international oversight of husband's legal case

Cristela Georgescu, wife of former Romanian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu, has called for international diplomatic oversight of her husband's legal proceedings. In an interview with American commentator Alex Jones, she alleged that the investigations conducted by DIICOT are a form of “political persecution.”

Călin Georgescu has been in preventive detention since September 29 following a DIICOT investigation into allegations of forming an organized criminal group and serious fraud. The investigation suggests the group was established in September 2021, with the former candidate acting as a coordinator. Georgescu denies these accusations.

Cristela Georgescu described the early morning searches conducted by authorities as a “media circus” and a “demonstration of force.” She argued that the legal actions against her husband are motivated by his pro-peace stance and his refusal to align Romania with NATO's involvement in the Ukraine conflict. She urged international supporters to bring the case to high-level diplomatic circles to ensure the right to a fair trial and the protection of fundamental rights, citing the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States.
