Cristiada film returns to Mexican cinemas for Cristero War centenary

The film ‘Cristiada’ (released internationally as ‘For Greater Glory’) is scheduled to return to Mexican cinemas on October 15. The re-release comes 14 years after its initial debut and coincides with the centenary of the start of the Cristero War.

Producer Pablo José Barroso stated that the re-release aims to educate younger generations about this period of Mexican history, specifically focusing on the martyrs who died during the conflict. The Cristero War arose from intense anticlericalism in early 20th-century Mexico, which led to restrictions on Catholic worship and religious education, eventually sparking armed uprisings and widespread violence.

Directed by Dean Wright and produced by Pablo José Barroso and Sandra Solares, the 2012 production features an international cast including Andy García, Oscar Isaac, Eva Longoria, Peter O’Toole, and Eduardo Verástegui.
