Cristian commune invests in modern preschool infrastructure
The commune of Cristian is advancing major educational infrastructure projects to address a significant demographic boom. The local population has grown by nearly 50% between 2011 and 2021, rising from 4,500 to approximately 6,300 residents, which has increased demand for preschool services.
One project involves a modern nursery with a 70-place capacity, valued at approximately 3.5 million euros. This facility, funded through European funds via the National Investment Company (CNI), is entering its exterior landscaping phase. The design includes ecological solutions such as photovoltaic panels and grass terraces to enhance energy efficiency.
A larger-scale investment for a new kindergarten, totaling over 23 million lei (approximately 4.7 million euros), has also been secured through the ADR Centru under the ‘Centrum Region’ 2021-2027 program. This project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the Romanian state budget, and local contributions. The completion of this unit is expected by August 2029. These developments are part of a broader regional strategy to modernize school infrastructure across several Romanian counties, including Brașov and Sibiu.
