Cristian Deliorga and Marius Croitoru under investigation for private jet travel

The Romanian Judicial Inspection has launched an official investigation into Constitutional Court judge Cristian Deliorga and Constanța Tribunal president Marius Cătălin Croitoru following reports of their participation in private jet flights to Nice and Mykonos in July 2026. The flights, operated by Toyo Aviation, also carried several politicians and business figures, including former Prime Minister Victor Ponta and businessman Gruia Stoica, who has a final criminal conviction.

Florin Manole, a PSD deputy, defended the trip, stating he was part of an economic delegation organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) to meet potential American investors. Mihai Daraban, president of the CCIR, confirmed the Chamber covered the costs, asserting the institution is self-funded and has the right to organize such events.

The incident has sparked significant political backlash. The PNL and USR parties have petitioned the Constitutional Court and the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) to investigate the potential impact of these relationships on judicial impartiality. Additionally, the Romanian Senate's Committee for Constitutionality has begun hearings regarding the meeting between interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and Constitutional Court President Simina Tănăsescu, expanding the scope of the parliamentary inquiry.
