Cristian Mungiu’s ‘Fjord’ featured at Rome Film Festival

At the Rome Film Festival, attention has turned to themes of family and institutional conflict, highlighted by the screening of Cristian Mungiu’s Palme d’Or winner, ‘Fjord’. The film follows a Romanian couple, played by Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve, who relocate to a Norwegian fjord. The narrative explores the tension between their evangelical Christian faith and Norwegian social services, examining the breakdown of trust between parents and state institutions.

Mungiu’s work is noted for its moral ambiguity, challenging viewers to move beyond polarized views of guilt and innocence. Alongside ‘Fjord’, the festival is showcasing Daniele Luchetti’s ‘Noi, un po’ meglio’, a dramedy starring Elio Germano and Maria Chiara Giannetta that follows a couple’s journey through the adoption process.
