Cristian Totti retires from football due to brain health issue

Cristian Totti, the son of Italian football legend Francesco Totti, has retired from professional football due to a medical condition involving an occlusion in the aqueduct of Sylvius.

The issue was discovered incidentally during a CT scan intended to investigate a nasal problem. The scan revealed that the narrow channel in the brain, which facilitates the flow of cerebrospinal fluid between the third and fourth ventricles, was obstructed. This blockage prevented the fluid from circulating correctly, leading to abnormal intracranial pressure.

Francesco Totti revealed that his son had experienced frequent headaches since childhood, though these were previously dismissed as simple fatigue. Following the diagnosis, medical intervention was performed to remove the blockage. After his playing career, which included stints with Roma's youth teams and Olbia in Serie D, Cristian has transitioned to a technical role at the Totti Soccer School.
