Cristiano Malgioglio urges sunscreen use after melanoma survival

Italian singer‑songwriter Cristiano Malgioglio survived a melanoma that developed after years of unprotected sun exposure while he owned a house in Cuba. The tumour was removed at Milan’s San Raffaele Hospital by Professor Santo Raffaele Mercuri.

Malgioglio is now urging young people to protect their skin, saying “Il sole può uccidere. Usate la protezione 50” and recommending SPF 50 sunscreen and limiting sun exposure to the hours between 9‑11 am and after 5 pm. He stresses that the sun can cause cancer, premature ageing and wrinkles, and calls on the public to listen to doctors and scientists rather than “ciarlatani”. His message follows a TikTok video by rapper Salmo, who had previously spoken about a basal‑cell carcinoma recurrence, prompting a renewed debate on sunscreen use.
