Cristiano Ronaldo apologizes for Portugal camp departure

Cristiano Ronaldo Jorge Jesus Portugal national team UEFA Nations League football controversy

Cristiano Ronaldo has issued a formal statement addressing his recent departure from the Portugal national team camp. In a lengthy communication, the 41-year-old player apologized to his teammates and the Portuguese public, accepting full responsibility for his actions as team captain.

Ronaldo explained that his decision to leave was driven by a complete breakdown of trust in head coach Jorge Jesus. He alleged that Jesus failed to honor promises regarding his playing time, specifically noting that during a match against Norway, he was instructed to prepare for 30 minutes of play but was never substituted into the game.

Despite the friction, Ronaldo clarified that he is not retiring from international football and remains available to represent Portugal. He acknowledged that his conduct warrants punishment from the Portuguese Football Federation.
