Cristiano Ronaldo faces criticism from singer Salvador Sobral
Portuguese singer Salvador Sobral has drawn criticism from Cristiano Ronaldo’s family following harsh remarks regarding the football star’s impact on the Portuguese national team. During an appearance on the Spanish program La Revuelta, Sobral suggested that the 41-year-old forward is no longer suited for elite football and described him as a “statue” during the recent World Cup, claiming the team would have won without him.
Sobral further characterized Ronaldo’s recent behavior and performance as exhibiting signs of a “god complex.” These comments prompted a backlash from Ronaldo’s family, including Ivana Rodriguez, who accused the singer of being disrespectful and seeking public attention by targeting the athlete during a difficult period.
The controversy follows recent tensions between Ronaldo and the national team. After being left out of a match against Norway in late September, Ronaldo reportedly left training sessions unilaterally, leading to a lengthy public letter accusing coach Jorge Jesus of broken promises and disrespect. The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) Disciplinary Committee is currently reviewing potential sanctions regarding Ronaldo’s departure from the team camp.
