Cristiano Ronaldo suspended 30 days by Portuguese Football Federation
The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has issued a 30-day suspension and a 255-euro fine to Cristiano Ronaldo following his abrupt departure from the national team training camp in late September. The disciplinary action stems from a dispute with head coach Jorge Jesus, which reportedly began after Ronaldo was left on the bench during a match against Norway.
Ronaldo had initially expressed frustration after being told he would play 30 minutes but failing to enter the pitch. He subsequently left the camp in Denmark without prior authorization. While the player initially stated he would accept the punishment without mitigating circumstances, he later submitted a detailed defense citing his career achievements, his disciplinary record, and his contributions to Portuguese football.
The FPF disciplinary committee accepted these arguments, which resulted in a significant reduction of the potential penalties, which could have reached six months of suspension and a 1,020-euro fine. Because the suspension period coincides with a break in international fixtures, Ronaldo is expected to be available for Portugal’s upcoming Nations League matches against Denmark and Wales in November.
