Cristina Rivera Garza discusses femicide in Poznań

Pulitzer Prize winner Cristina Rivera Garza visited Poznań, Poland, to discuss her book, ‘Niezniszczalne lato Liliany’ (Liliana’s Unbreakable Summer). The work, which won the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Memoir, uses a blend of non-fiction and literary prose to reconstruct the life of her sister, Liliana, who was murdered by her partner in July 1990.

During her appearance at the Zamek Culture Centre, Garza addressed themes of patriarchy, systemic injustice, and the dismissal of violence against women. She shared her experiences regarding how women who have survived violence have received her work and encouraged public dialogue concerning femicide and the oppressive systems that allow such crimes to go unpunished.
