Cristo Redentor international pass faces delays due to snow and avalanches
The Cristo Redentor international pass between Argentina and Chile is experiencing transit disruptions following an avalanche on Route 60 near the ‘El Japonés’ shelter. The incident has complicated the scheduled progressive reopening of the corridor.
Under the current phased reopening plan, transit is restricted to cargo transport. On Thursday, October 22, the pass is open exclusively for cargo vehicles traveling from Chile to Argentina. The full reopening for all vehicle types in both directions is scheduled to begin on Friday, October 23, at 8:00 AM, provided weather and road conditions remain stable.
Authorities are currently performing snow removal and evaluating the safety of the roadway and slopes. Meanwhile, the Pehuenche pass remains closed. Extreme temperatures continue to affect the mountain region, with readings as low as -12 degrees Celsius in Las Cuevas.
