Authorities from both nations implemented a two-stage closure on Tuesday. Barriers at the Uspallata control point in Argentina and the Guardia Vieja point in Chile were scheduled to close at 17:00, followed by the full closure of the international tunnel at 19:00. This preventive measure aims to protect travelers and transport workers from risks associated with snow accumulation, ice on the roadway, and low visibility.

There is currently no confirmed date for the reopening, as meteorological forecasts suggest adverse weather could persist for several days.
