Cristo Redentor Pass adopts winter schedule, nightly closure from June 1, 2026

Starting on 1 June 2026, the Cristo Redentor International Pass, the main land corridor linking Mendoza, Argentina with Chile, will operate under a winter timetable. Night‑time traffic will be suspended and the tunnel will be closed from midnight until 9 a.m. each day, a restriction that will remain in force at least until 31 August, when border committees will reassess conditions.

During daylight hours the crossing will be open from 9:00 to 21:00 Argentine time on the Argentina side and from 8:00 to 20:00 Chilean time on the Chile side. Additional early barrier closures are planned at Uspallata in Argentina (19:00) and Guardia Vieja in Chile (18:00). All vehicle types, including private cars, freight trucks and long‑distance buses, may use the tunnel, but drivers are urged to verify road conditions, monitor weather forecasts and carry chains for ice and snow. Official channels will provide updates to ensure safe travel across the high‑mountain route.
