Cristo Redentor prepares for 2031 centenary celebrations

The Christ the Redeemer monument in Brazil recently celebrated its 95th anniversary. In preparation for its centenary in 2031, Padre Omar Raposo, rector of the Sanctuary, has outlined ambitious plans to mark the occasion as a major historical milestone for the country.

Proposed celebrations include a 27-stage national race covering every Brazilian state, as well as three international stages. The rector also plans to host international exhibitions through partnerships with various embassies. He emphasized that the monument serves as a symbol of the common good and a cultural heritage belonging to all people rather than a single institution.

To commemorate the 95th anniversary, the Metropolitan Cathedral in downtown Rio de Janeiro held an ‘Ação de Amor’ (Action of Love) event. This initiative mobilized approximately 300 people to provide over 6,000 services, including medical consultations, vaccinations, legal guidance, and documentation assistance to the community.
