Cristopher Sánchez strengthens Cy Young candidacy with Phillies win

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez continues his strong campaign for the National League Cy Young Award. In a recent outing at Citizens Bank Park, the Dominican left-hander pitched six innings, allowing only one run on eight hits with three walks and six strikeouts, leading the Phillies to a 6-5 victory over the Miami Marlins.

Sánchez now holds a 16-4 record, leading Major League Baseball in wins. His season statistics include a 2.51 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, and 187 strikeouts over 161.2 innings. He has recorded 18 quality starts this season and recently achieved a historic streak of 50.2 consecutive scoreless innings, the longest such streak by a left-handed pitcher in MLB history.

If Sánchez wins the award, he would be the first Phillies pitcher to do so since Roy Halladay in 2010 and would join fellow Dominicans Pedro Martínez, Bartolo Colón, and Sandy Alcántara as winners of the prestigious honor.
