Cáritas and Venezuelan judicial updates regarding terrorism cases

In Spain, the organization Cáritas has tightened the requirements for members of the terrorist group ETA to access its social action programs. This decision follows a formal complaint from the Dignidad y Justicia Association, which expressed concern regarding the inclusion of convicted terrorists in volunteer programs. The association highlighted cases where individuals convicted of serious crimes were participating in activities such as garden maintenance and social assistance as part of their reintegration plans.

In Venezuela, the NGO Acceso a la Justicia has clarified that terrorism-related courts have not been abolished despite a recent Supreme Tribunal of Justice resolution. While the resolution modifies the organizational structure by removing the national competence of certain control courts in Caracas, the NGO notes that criminal jurisdiction for terrorism-related offenses remains. The shift to ordinary criminal courts based on territorial competence may reduce the logistical and economic burdens on families of detainees by preventing the need for transfers to the capital.
