Cáritas launches social campaign to address homelessness

Cáritas has launched a new social campaign under the slogan “A home is much more than a place to live. It is a place to belong.” The initiative aims to highlight the human reality of homelessness, framing it as an experience that strips individuals of dignity and mental health rather than a mere statistic.

In the Valencian Community, approximately 23.9% of the population faces housing exclusion issues. Rising rental costs have left many families living below the severe poverty threshold. In the past year, Cáritas Diocesana Orihuela-Alicante provided support to 1,065 homeless individuals, including those sleeping outdoors or seeking refuge through parish services in areas such as Elche and Alicante.
