Critica evaluates underground mining for Mt Lindsay tin-tungsten project
Critica (ASX: CRI) has initiated a scoping study to evaluate an integrated underground mining concept for its Mt Lindsay tin-tungsten project in Tasmania. This approach represents a shift from historical open-pit designs, aiming to address modern environmental, commercial, and mining expectations.
The proposed underground development seeks to minimize surface disturbance and tailings storage by utilizing underground backfill and prioritizing existing infrastructure. The project intends to leverage Tasmania’s hydroelectric power to support lower-emission electrification.
CEO Jacob Deysel noted that the reassessment is driven by strengthening tin and tungsten markets, particularly as tungsten becomes increasingly strategic for global technology, manufacturing, and defense supply chains. The study is also evaluating the potential for byproducts, including copper, boron, and fluorspar, while an update to the mineral resource estimate is being conducted in parallel.
