Criuleni maternity ward suspends activity due to neonatologist shortage
The maternity ward at Criuleni District Hospital has temporarily suspended its full obstetric activities following the resignation of its only neonatologist in July. While the facility can still handle extreme emergencies, pregnant women from the Criuleni and Dubăsari regions are being redirected to Chișinău for perinatal assistance.
Hospital administration and the Ministry of Health have attempted to fill the vacancy, but no candidates have applied for the position despite recent renovations to the facility. Medical officials noted that operating obstetric services without a neonatologist is not possible in a safe and full capacity. The hospital also faces shortages of other medical specialists.
