Cármen Lúcia laments institutional distrust amid STF crisis
Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF) Minister Cármen Lúcia has expressed deep concern regarding the decline of public trust in national institutions. Speaking at the XXII National Internal Control Meeting in Belo Horizonte, Lúcia lamented the current climate of disenchantment and emphasized that public servants have a duty to correct errors to preserve democracy.
Her remarks follow a period of significant tension within the STF. A recent session involved the analysis of a Federal Police report containing messages attributed to Minister Alexandre de Moraes and banker Daniel Vorcaro of Banco Master. During the proceedings, Lúcia expressed feelings of sadness and consternation, even apologizing to the Brazilian people for the ongoing institutional crisis.
In response to her emotional testimony, twelve collectives of female judges from various Brazilian states sent flowers and a letter of support to the minister. The collectives stated that she is 'not alone' and encouraged her not to transform the institutional crisis into personal guilt.
