Crmnica winemaker uses music to protect grapes from birds

In the Crmnica region, grape growers are facing significant challenges due to bird attacks that threaten crop yields and quality. Đuro Marković, a winemaker from Sotonić, reports that birds such as starlings and blackbirds target the grapes during the ripening process, often in the early morning and afternoon.

Marković has experimented with various deterrents, including noise-making devices and recordings of predatory birds like owls. However, he noted that birds eventually become accustomed to these sounds, reducing their effectiveness. This year, he has implemented a new method using music from Radio Bar, playing it from 5:00 PM until late the following morning to deter birds during their most active feeding periods.
