Cro-Mags to release re-recorded version of ‘The Age Of Quarrel’
Harley Flanagan, frontman of the New York hardcore veterans Cro-Mags, has announced a full re-recording of the band’s iconic debut album, titled ‘The Age Of Quarrel: 40 Years Of Quarrel’. The project is scheduled for release on November 13 via BLKIIBLK.
The decision to re-record the album stems from a long-standing effort to address financial injustices. Flanagan stated that none of the musicians who played on the original recording were ever paid, nor did they receive an accounting of the album’s sales. After failing to reunite the original lineup to reclaim rights through the Copyright Reversion Act, Flanagan decided to re-record the entire album with current bandmates, friends, and guest musicians.
This new version aims to ensure that songwriters finally receive their royalties through ASCAP and BMI, with remaining profits being donated to charity. The project was inspired by the production of the documentary ‘Harley Flanagan: Wired For Chaos’, which required new recordings because the original tracks could not be licensed.
