Croatia advances regional heritage preservation through digitalization
Cultural institutions in Croatia are advancing the preservation of regional heritage through digitalization and new educational projects.
The Koprivnica City Museum is currently digitizing the legacy of composer Toma Šestak. This project includes musical scores, letters, and personal documents from his estate, as well as the broader musical collection. The initiative aims to protect rare and unique original materials from damage while making digital content easily searchable for scientific research, exhibitions, and new musical interpretations.
In a separate effort, a virtual exhibition and bibliographic database titled ‘Scientific Heritage of Virovitica-Podravina County’ has been created. Developed by librarians Josip Strija and his colleague, the project profiles 25 scientists and intellectuals connected to the region. The initiative is designed to encourage research and literacy among students and teachers by connecting biographical data with available academic resources.
