Croatia and Serbia Expand Military Recruitment Programs

The Croatian Ministry of Defence has issued a public tender for 300 contract soldiers and marines, with service to begin on 1 September 2026. Applicants of both sexes must be Croatian citizens, aged up to 30, have at least a secondary‑school qualification, and provide the required documentation. Positions are advertised for a range of garrisons across the country, including Zagreb, Split, Pula and other locations.

Serbia is preparing to reinstate compulsory military service after a 15‑year hiatus. The new 75‑day training program is slated to start on 1 March 2025, featuring rigorous medical and psychological examinations, basic infantry training, specialised instruction and field camps. Recruits will be subject to strict appearance rules and limited personal phone use. President Aleksandar Vučić has affirmed the country's readiness for the change, emphasizing regional development benefits.
