Croatia and Serbia face calls for cooperation on missing persons

The human rights organization Documenta has called for improved cooperation between Serbia and Croatia regarding the fate of missing persons from the Homeland War. Documenta urged Serbia to release remaining protocols concerning victims from the Vukovar hospital and provide information on unknown graves to Croatia. Conversely, Croatia is called upon to share information regarding locations requested by the Serbian side.

In Croatia, the fate of 1,725 persons remains unresolved. Documenta also criticized the State Attorney's Office (DORH) for making promises about future investigations during identification ceremonies, labeling such actions as unprofessional and an admission of insufficient prior work.

Simultaneously, a political dispute has emerged in Croatia between the Homeland Movement (DP) and Milorad Pupovac, president of the SDSS. DP representative Stipo Mlinarić questioned Pupovac's effectiveness in securing Serbian archives to find data on missing Croatian soldiers and civilians. Pupovac responded by accusing Mlinarić of conducting a campaign against Serbs and threatened legal action. The Homeland Movement rejected these claims, reiterating their demand for concrete answers regarding Pupovac's efforts to facilitate information exchange with Belgrade.
