Croatia and Syria discuss economic cooperation and reconstruction

Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Minister Gordan Grlić Radman met with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly to discuss strengthening bilateral relations.

The discussions focused on economic cooperation and the potential for a business forum in Damascus involving Croatian companies. Key sectors identified for practical cooperation include energy, transport, trade, healthcare, and agriculture.

Croatia highlighted its expertise in post-war recovery and reconstruction, specifically regarding demining efforts, which is a critical prerequisite for infrastructure rebuilding and population return in Syria. Diplomatic sources noted that strategic Croatian companies, such as INA and Končar, were discussed as potential partners in these development efforts.
