Croatia animal welfare group warns against unregistered pet hotels
The Croatian animal‑rights association Prijatelji životinja cautions that leaving dogs or cats unattended during holidays is not only cruel but also a criminal offence punishable by imprisonment. The group stresses that responsible pet care requires using facilities that are officially registered for temporary accommodation of pets.
The association explains that registered pet hotels must comply with detailed regulations covering space, equipment, veterinary care, record‑keeping and staff competence. Owners are urged to prioritize quality over price, inspect establishments in advance and verify monitoring measures such as video surveillance. The public is asked to report any unregistered or non‑compliant pet‑care services to the State Inspectorate, and a list of approved facilities is available on the association’s website.
