Croatia approves agricultural aid and new grain storage plans

The Croatian Government has approved two major support measures for the agriculture and fisheries sectors to protect households and businesses from rising costs. A 10 million euro program has been established to support autumn sowing in 2026, targeting producers of winter crops such as wheat, barley, oats, rye, peas, and rapeseed. This initiative aims to mitigate the impact of high production costs, market volatility, and climate-related risks.

Additionally, 20 million euros will be allocated to support the permanent cessation of fishing activities using surrounding nets (seine nets) to address imbalances in fishing capacity.

In a separate strategic move, the Croatian Chamber of Agriculture (HPK) has proposed a new model for the country’s grain sector. The plan involves the construction of five large-scale silos, each with a 50,000-ton capacity, across five Slavonian counties. These facilities would be owned by producer organizations, allowing farmers to improve their negotiating positions by controlling the timing of their sales rather than being forced to sell immediately after harvest.
