Croatia begins social welfare payments for elderly and pensioners

Social welfare payments for elderly citizens and pensioners in Croatia are commencing.

National allowance payments for July will begin on Monday, August 17, for 19,445 eligible users. The monthly amount is 160.22 euros, with over 3.1 million euros allocated from the state budget. To qualify, applicants must be Croatian citizens aged 65 or older with at least ten years of continuous residence in Croatia, must not be pension recipients or compulsory insurance holders, and must have a total household income not exceeding 320.44 euros per month.

In Zagreb, monthly cash allowances for pensioners are also being distributed. For those with active bank accounts, payments begin on Monday, August 17, 2026, while those receiving funds through the Croatian Post will receive them starting Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Eligibility in Zagreb is based on a minimum of five years of continuous residence and a total monthly income of 350 euros or less. Benefits are tiered into four groups, ranging from 36.50 euros to 83.00 euros per month, depending on the recipient's specific income level.
