Croatia Boosts Earthquake Reconstruction, Thousands of Homes Finished

Minister of Construction Branko Bačić reported that, following the Zagreb and Petrinja earthquakes, 14,202 private buildings and 559 replacement family houses have been completed. The government aims to build about 1,050 replacement homes, with an estimated total reconstruction value of €4.91 billion, funded largely by the EU Solidarity Fund.

Work on block‑wise reconstruction of multi‑apartment buildings is underway, with 995 such buildings renovated to date and 12,354 non‑structural repairs finished. New construction of un‑damaged multi‑apartment blocks is also progressing to provide affordable housing.

Opposition parties raised concerns, noting that some rebuilt structures have serious defects, such as roof leaks and wall dampness, and called for stricter oversight of contractors.
