Croatia celebrates World Audiovisual Heritage Day with classic film screenings

In celebration of World Audiovisual Heritage Day on October 27, various locations in Croatia are hosting special film screenings to honor cinematic history. The programs focus on the 100th anniversary of the birth of filmmaker Nikola Tanhofer and the 50th anniversary of the classic children's film ‘Vlak u snijegu’ (Train in the Snow) by director Mate Relja.

In Novalja, the Gozdenica Cultural Center will present Tanhofer’s 1958 film ‘H-8’, a significant work of Croatian cinema inspired by a real traffic accident. The program is organized in collaboration with the Croatian State Archives – Croatian Cinematheque.

Additionally, Retro Kino Galženica will host free screenings from October 22 to 25. The lineup includes Tanhofer’s directorial debut ‘Nije bilo uzalud’ (1957), the color film ‘Klempo’ (1958), the masterpiece ‘H-8’ (1958), and Mate Relja’s ‘Vlak u snijegu’ (1976). These events are supported by the Croatian Audiovisual Centre and the Kino mreža network, emphasizing the importance of preserving and making film heritage accessible to future generations.
