Croatia claims $2.7 billion in military assets from Montenegro
Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman has asserted that Croatia is seeking the return of military assets from Montenegro valued at over $2.7 billion. The claims, which include vessels, submarines, and a military hospital, are based on documentation and interactive maps detailing the state of military property in May 1990 versus 1991. Grlić Radman stated that while the school ship 'Jadran' is a prominent symbol of the dispute, it is only one part of the broader military succession issue.
Montenegrin Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović responded by stating that no formal request for these assets has been delivered to his ministry. He noted that the issue was not among the ten open topics he inherited upon taking office. Ibrahimović emphasized that Montenegro is prepared to address its obligations while protecting its own interests, but urged that bilateral disputes be kept separate from Montenegro's European Union accession negotiations.
Separately, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković discussed energy infrastructure, stating that Croatia aims to begin supplying gas from the Krk LNG terminal to Germany within the next two years. This project requires the development of gas pipelines connecting Croatia with Slovenia and Austria to reach Bavaria. Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder expressed strong interest in this southern energy corridor to enhance regional security.
