Croatia corruption trials continue for former officials

Multiple corruption trials involving former officials and entrepreneurs are proceeding in Croatian courts.

In Zagreb, the trial regarding the misuse of state subsidies continues. Former government official Boris Milošević appeared in court, while other defendants were absent. Witnesses testified regarding the application process for funds intended for entrepreneurs and farmers, with one witness noting rumors that initial applicants received no support before additional funds were unexpectedly approved. The witness stated she met Milošević through a family rental arrangement after the subsidy process had begun.

In Rijeka, the trial of former mayor Vojko Obersnel and others continues. The defendants, who have pleaded not guilty, face accusations from USKOK regarding the preferential treatment of the company Viktoria between 2008 and 2016. Prosecutors allege the City of Rijeka was defrauded of 176,000 euros through manipulated tender conditions and inflated property valuations. The defense argues that decisions were made by collective bodies rather than individuals.
