Croatia debate over basic amenities owners must provide to guests

A heated discussion has emerged on social‑media platforms between short‑term‑rental owners and tourists in Croatia about what basic supplies must be included in rented apartments. Users point out that guests paying €120 or more per night expect more than a clean space, demanding enough toilet‑paper, towels, and kitchen staples such as salt, pepper, sugar, oil, coffee and tea, as well as detergent and trash‑bag supplies. One comment summed it up: “two rolls of toilet paper for a week are not enough,” and “two towels per person is not a luxury but a standard.”

Several guests reported arriving to find half‑used sponges, no detergent, only a single roll of toilet paper, and missing basic provisions. Owners counter that rising maintenance costs, inflation and new regulations strain their ability to meet all expectations, and some argue that providing food items is not hygienic. Others note they do offer welcome drinks, coffee, and local products. The dispute highlights the tension between tourist expectations and the financial realities faced by Croatian apartment owners.
