Croatia deploys second mobile ambulance in Virovitičko‑podravska County

On 26 May 2024, a second mobile ambulance arrived in Virovitičko‑podravska County to serve residents of Slatina and surrounding villages. The vehicle is part of a national health initiative funded with €5.3 million from Croatia’s Recovery and Resilience Plan, which will provide a total of 33 mobile units to 20 counties.

Each ambulance for the VPŽ health centre is valued at €161 875. The first unit serves the city of Virovitica, while the new vehicle expands coverage to the more remote Slatina area. County prefect Igor Andrović emphasised the aim of “equal health service for all, especially the elderly and those in hard‑to‑reach locations.” Director Igor Fazekaš noted the challenge of recruiting doctors for the mobile teams but expects full operation by the end of June.

The mobile ambulances are equipped as moving clinics with diagnostic tools, treatment facilities, and prescription capabilities. They will be staffed by a family‑medicine doctor, a nurse and a driver, bringing medical care directly to patients’ homes.
