Croatia develops SOP for rapid worker support in crises
The Croatian Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy is developing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to provide rapid support to workers during crisis situations. The initiative aims to better coordinate relevant institutions to protect vulnerable groups and ensure timely assistance tailored to the specific type of threat.
The development of this SOP is informed by recent experiences following wildfires in Omiš and on the island of Brač. In those instances, the immediate priority was human safety and the protection of social welfare users, followed by measures to preserve employment for those affected by the fires.
During the Omiš fires, an intervention measure was implemented to preserve jobs for workers on indefinite contracts at affected businesses. This included compensation for actual salary costs up to 1,500 euros per month per worker, a measure intended to last until business conditions are restored, potentially until May 2027.
