Croatia Economic and Social Council debates labor competitiveness

During a session of the Economic and Social Council (GSV), Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković addressed labor market opportunities amidst global disruptions. He emphasized that lifelong learning, increased production, and investments in artificial intelligence are essential for economic competitiveness.

Employers, represented by GSV President and HUP member Ivan Mišetić, called for improved competitiveness through easier investment in Croatia and more competitive labor costs. Mišetić noted that Croatia is losing ground to Eastern European competitors and suggested offsetting this through investments in knowledge, skills, innovation, and technology.

Conversely, labor unions expressed concern regarding potential price increases. Dražen Jović, president of the Independent Croatian Trade Unions (NHS), highlighted recent protests regarding low wages and pensions, noting a broader wave of similar social unrest across Europe, including Spain, Italy, and France.
