Croatia emphasizes electric scooter safety and regulations

Authorities in Croatia are emphasizing road safety and the legal restrictions surrounding electric scooters following recent incidents and safety demonstrations.

In Sveti Ivan Zelina, police seized a Ku-Kirin G3 PRO electric scooter operated by a minor on a pedestrian area. The vehicle, which exceeded 25 km/h and had a motor power over 0.6 kW, does not qualify as a personal transport vehicle under current traffic safety laws. Police are initiating misdemeanor proceedings against the minor's parents, noting that individuals under 14 are prohibited from operating such devices.

In Vinkovci, the Vukovar-Srijem County Road Safety Council organized a civil protection drill at the Ivan Mažuranić Elementary School. The simulation, titled ‘Car Collision with an Electric Scooter,’ depicted a scenario where a 13-year-old boy suffered severe injuries after being struck by a car. The exercise involved police, emergency medical services, and the Red Cross to demonstrate emergency response coordination and the potential dangers of unsafe scooter use.
