Croatia expands drought damage compensation program

The Croatian Agency for Payments in Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development has issued a revised public call for drought damage compensation. Following feedback from farmers regarding the limitations of the initial call, which only covered specific cereals, sunflower, and soy, the Ministry of Agriculture has expanded eligibility to nearly all agricultural crops recorded in the Damage Register.

Exceptions to the new program include crops already covered by other EU funds, such as plums, hazelnuts, grapes, alfalfa, and sugar beets. The government has allocated 20.16 million euros for this support. Compensation can cover up to 50 percent of the damage, or up to 70 percent for insured production, with a maximum of 42,000 euros per user.

In the Municipality of Berek, local authorities have declared a natural disaster due to drought affecting crops from May to September. Farmers in the region have a deadline of October 19, 2026, to report damages to the Municipal Commission for the Assessment of Natural Disaster Damage.
